Alexis Fintland ‘22 Shares Her Post-Grad Experience and Some Advice!
What Alexis Fintland has been up to since graduating
Since graduating, I’ve been working full-time in Washington, D.C. as a policy researcher for the Migration Policy Institute. In my role, I work to promote the civic, economic, and linguistic integration of immigrants and refugees in the United States. My analyses and policy recommendations typically focus on equity issues in workforce and education systems. Over the past year, I’ve collaborated with the White House Task Force for New Americans and several state governments to advance policies that benefit immigrant communities.
Alexis Fintland’s post-grad advice
My post-grad advice?
Be open-minded to change, because everything happens for a reason. Cornell is fueled by a fast-paced culture that can feel like everyone has it all figured out, but remember that all good things come in time! Take the time to slow down, be present, and let go of the things that are out of your control (this is a hard one). It will work out in the end, I promise! You’ll never know unless you apply. I think a lot of us have a habit of taking away an opportunity for ourselves before we’ve even tried or applied. Don’t be afraid of rejection! If anything, think of it as something that is bringing you one step closer to the right opportunity!Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and reach out. That person you connected with at a school event or during your summer internship might be the key to landing your dream opportunity. Also, many professionals (especially Cornell alumni) love to help out recent grads or current students!
